Our ‘zon in de stad’ project started off as a residents’ initiative to promote PV-panels in the Middelland neighborhood in Rotterdam. We found that the main reason people were not ready to switch to renewable energy was the fact that the technology was still unknown to them. PV-panels are given the cold shoulder. To get Middelland familiar with PV-panels, we are setting up a network of ambassadors to inspire people, realizing two solar pavilions to confront people and organizing pop-up stores to inform the residents.

"Our consultancy firm advises schools, governments and companies in the field of awareness and sustainability. We believe that sustainability can only be effective in a broad, integrated context. The collaboration with P·A in the ZIDS project is effective and complementary: P·A investigates, designs and builds, while we ensure that the initiative is widely supported and actually being imitated. After a long preparatory phase, we are now ready to roll out our plan, which gives energy."

"Our company is a pioneering international advisory company committed to the development of policies, methodologies, programs and projects that mitigate and adapt to the impacts of climate change. Our goal is to break down complex information on climate finance and climate policy into understandable terms. In this project we show the accessibility of solar energy and how you, as a private individual, can become your own electricity supplier. The combination of our knowledge and the creativity of P·A is excellent. Initially we had to fight, but now more and more parties are eager to contribute to this initiative. Very satisfying and inspiring!"

"As the person in charge of our research lab, I constantly explore research themes that touch our core theme ‘the vital city’: a future-proof city in which smart buildings on an intelligent grid contribute to happiness for all residents. Solar energy, generated and managed by private individuals on their own property, is an indispensable ingredient of such a city. With this project we create awareness; we show that solar energy is fun and for almost every city dweller within easy reach."
